Ruby Qin currently identifies herself as a creator and an amateur art enthusiast.
She graduated in 2024 with a BA in Print from Sichuan Fine Arts Institute and is currently pursuing her MA in Print at the Royal College of Art in the UK.

Between 2020 and 2024, her artistic practice began with a sustained inquiry into the definition of printmaking. She focused on the medium’s inherent characteristics, like order, reproducibility, and materiality, and transformed them into conceptual and performative logics. As her practice evolved, it gradually expanded into publication, body-based performance, and working with text as material.

In her postgraduate studies, Ruby has shifted her focus toward the theme of self-construction, particularly how, in contemporary contexts, the act of seeing and being seen functions as a mechanism for shaping subjectivity. Through bodily performance and narrative structures, she explores how visibility becomes both a mode of affirmation and a beginning of disintegration.

She critiques the repetitive structures of self-fascination and self-observation constructed by modern society—mechanisms disguised as authenticity that she believes are eroding individual subjectivity and gradually stripping away human autonomy.

Ruby also questions how emotional intimacy becomes entangled in systems of visibility, and has begun to consider invisibility as a strategy of resistance. In works such as The Love Letter Trilogy, she uses bodily acts of writing and erasure to transform private letters into conscious, visible expression, exposing the paradox between intimacy and performance.

Ruby's practice is just beginning. Here, I wish for her work to serve not only as a tool of expression, but as a method of disruption—— interfering with, and breaking apart, the performative illusions of the self.

Ruby is currently based in the UK.
